The Gift of Christ's Peace: John 14:27
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid."
- John 14:27
In John 14:27, Jesus is speaking to His disciples during His final moments with them before His arrest and crucifixion. This chapter is part of the larger discourse known as the Farewell Discourse (John 13-17), where Jesus is preparing His disciples for His departure and the coming of the Holy Spirit.
In this verse Jesus is reassuring His disciples that, although He will soon leave them physically, He will not abandon them. He promises to send the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, who will dwell within them and continue to guide, teach, and give them peace.
The peace Jesus offers is distinct from the temporary or superficial peace that the world provides. It is a deep, abiding peace that comes from knowing God, trusting in His plans, and having the Holy Spirit within. Jesus encourages His disciples not to be troubled or afraid because, through the Spirit, they will have everything they need to face the challenges ahead.
It's easy to feel overwhelmed, anxious, and unsure about the future. We seek peace in various places—success, relationships, material possessions—yet those things only provide temporary relief. Jesus, however, offers something radically different: a peace that is not of this world.
In John 14:27, He tells His disciples, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you." The peace Jesus offers isn’t dependent on circumstances. It’s the kind of peace that calms your heart even in the midst of chaos, providing reassurance that God is in control. This peace comes from trusting Him fully, knowing that His plans are perfect and that He’s walking every step of your journey with you.
When Jesus promises that our hearts don’t have to be troubled or afraid, He is reminding us that fear and worry are not stronger than His love and sovereignty. He doesn’t just wish peace for us—He gives it to us, as a gift. We don’t have to strive for it, but we do need to accept it.
In difficult seasons, when you face uncertainty, remember that the peace of Christ is already within you. Lean on it, trust in Him, and let His peace guard your heart and mind.
Prayer: Thank You for the peace You give through Jesus. When my heart is troubled, remind me that You are in control. Help me trust in Your presence and rest in Your perfect plan. Fill me with Your peace today, and guide me through every challenge. Amen.

I pray that God will bless all my children so they have peace of mind and perseverance and forgive me for all my faults, by not having them negatively affect my children.

I used to think I had peace back when I didn’t know Jesus. I never realized how often I would seek counterfeit sources to obtain peace, but it was never enough. Jesus truly gave me a peace that I cannot understand or explain. I thank Jesus for coming into my life and transforming me. The best thing you can do in this life is surrendering your life to Jesus.

When our hearts are troubled and worried, our first desires are to turn to the things of this world, but Jesus calls us to trust in his peace, knowing that he will make things beautiful and fill our hearts with the mercy and love his perfect will will give us. Christ will give us what we desire in his perfect timing and love. The things of the world will never satisfy us- only God can bring us the true love and fill our hearts with beauty when we follow his will and truth.
