Verse of the Week - October 15th 2023

"Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."

- Matthew 5:16 (ESV)

In a world often shrouded in darkness, the words of Jesus from the Sermon on the Mount stand as a guiding light for all who seek to follow Him. In Matthew 5:16, He imparts a simple yet profound message that speaks to the very core of our Christian journey: "Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."

As children of God, we are called to be more than mere observers in this world. We are called to be active participants, to make a positive impact through our actions, and to shine a light that dispels darkness. But what does it mean to let our light shine?

First, it means living a life aligned with the teachings of Jesus. It means loving your neighbor, forgiving those who wrong you, and showing kindness to the stranger. It means seeking justice, walking humbly with God, and striving for righteousness in all your endeavors.

Second, it means not hiding your faith but sharing it with others in word and deed. Our faith should be evident in the way we treat others, the way we conduct ourselves, and the way we respond to life's challenges. When we live out our faith authentically, others will see the transformative power of Christ in us.

And finally, it means recognizing that our good works are not for our glory but for God's. When others witness the love, compassion, and kindness we extend, it should lead them to praise and glorify our Heavenly Father. Our actions are a reflection of His love and grace in our lives.

In a world often defined by self-interest, competition, and division, we have the opportunity to stand out as beacons of light. Our actions have the potential to inspire, heal, and reconcile. They can bring hope to the hopeless, comfort to the afflicted, and unity to the divided.

So, as you go about your day, remember that you are called to be a light-bearer. Your life is a testament to the transformative power of God's love. Let your light shine not for your own glory but for His. In doing so, you not only illuminate the path for others but also bring glory to your Father who is in heaven.
